New Beginnings

Hi lovelies,

Happy New Year! Wishing you a year filled with peace, love, joy and prosperity.

Before the year came to an end, I started a new job and returned to a sector I believed was far behind me. Embarking on this journey made me reflect, with excitement, on my past and look forward to the new chapter and mindset, ahead.

How beautiful it is, that despite the challenges we may face in life, we always have the opportunity to forge ahead a brighter future.

As we navigate through this new year, I encourage you to look ahead with hope. Embrace the months ahead in their fullness; seize them and make each day count. Show up for yourself, even if it may not be easy. By showing up for yourself, YOU have the power to create a life that feels authentic, joyful and fulfilling.

Don’t let limiting beliefs hold you back.

Rise above the imposter syndrome and step into all that you are to be.

9 Things to do in December

Hi lovelies,

*Mariah Carey voice* It’s ….. TIMEEEEEE!!!

How is it the first week of December already?!?

‘Tis the season to be jolly, and here’s a list of things for you to do, to ensure you have the most magical month.

1. Visit The Wonderlights Experience

This year, I finally got to visit The Wonderlights Experience in Malahide Castle and Gardens, after having it on my annual bucket list for what feels like years and what a magical experience it was.

The most magical winter evening spent at The Wonderlights Experience

The perfect winters activity for friends, couples and families to visit over the coming weeks.

2. Make and decorate a gingerbread house

The making and decorating of a gingerbread house is such a wholesome winter activity to do solo or with friends.

Both Flying Tiger and Ikea sell ‘Build Your Own’ sets to make the process that bit easier, and while my attempt didn’t go exactly to plan, I cannot but emphasises just how fun this was to set aside time to make.

Pro tip: learn from our mistakes and make sure to assemble the house prior to decorating the individual pieces. You will save yourself a whole lot of heartache to say the least…

3. Make cute hot chocolates with your friends

I think we can all agree that hot chocolate is one of life’s simple pleasures and one that definitely makes the Autumn/Winter months more enjoyable.

This is your sign to invite your friends and loved ones over to make the cutest cups of hot coco.

These gingerbread shaped, chocolate covered marshmallows, I purchased in Flying Tiger, make the most divine hot chocolate topping, ever!

4. Host a Friendsmas Dinner

At Christmas it can be so easy to get caught up in the material, and focus on the giving and receiving of physical gifts, however this year I encourage us all to focus a little less on the presents and more on the presence of the people you love.

Cozy up and host your nearest and dearest around your table for a Friendsmas Dinner. The focus for this dinner is to ensure that lasting memories are made with your closest friends over good food, drinks and games.

Remember, “It’s not what’s on the table that matters… it’s who’s around it!”.

5. Go on a Winter Stroll

Wrap up in the wooly hats, winter coats, gloves and ear muffs and set out on a stroll even if it’s just around your local neighbourhood.

There’s just something so special about heading out in the crisp winter air. I recently visited Ireland’s highest waterfall, Powerscourt, located at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains.

This walk was so picturesque and really made me stop to appreciate the sheer beauty of nature in Winter. Just look at these pictures and video.

6. Have a snug movie night

Grab the throw blankets, cushions and snacks and spend a cosy night in watching some Christmas movies.

7. Visit a Christmas market

Nothing says festivities, more than mooching round a market at Christmas.

8. Light a holiday scented candle and have a pamper night

Routine pamper nights are the perfect reset for your body. Whether you choose to watch your favourite movie/series, do some skincare, have a bath or better yet all of the above, make sure to light a holiday scented candle to elevate your space.

9. Go to a carol service

Over the coming days many churches will host carol services in the lead up to Christmas Day. These services usually consist of hymns and readings of the gospel sharing the story of Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season, so it’s only right that you attend a service to commemorate the occasion and also spread the Christmas cheer.

Wishing you all a December to remember.

Growth is not linear

Hi lovelies,

Once again, I’m back after yet another long and unexpected hiatus! Life has really been lifing for me over the last few weeks and months. I’ve been going through so many growing pains and feel as though I’m in a season of learning, unlearning and relearning. I have been in and out of not two, but three jobs in the last few months, but we’ll talk more about that at some other point….

Today, however, I want to talk about growth.

In the dictionary, growth is described as the process of developing physically, mentally and/or spiritually. It can also be described as the process of increase in amount, value or importance. While these definitions are true, its important to remember that growth is not linear, it’s multi-dimensional. It does not follow a strait line or process, but instead can spiral through both space and time.

Over the last few weeks, I have had to welcome and accept the fact that growth is not a perfectly linear process as I once may have thought. It’s messy and uncomfortable and often brings ups feelings you weren’t expecting, but by God, is it necessary.

As you go through the various seasons that life throws at you, trust that you WILL grow in your own unique pace. Do not be discouraged when hurdles come your way, and things don’t go as planned. Instead embrace the challenges and grow through what you are going through. Turn any setback, regression and stagnation you face, into opportunities for growth instead of dwelling on them as an indication of a lack of progress.

Remember,

“Without the rain, flowers don’t grow. Without challenges neither do you”

8 Ways to Spend the month of August

Hi lovelies,

Hope you are keeping well. We are well and truly into the month of August, and summer will soon be drawing to an end. To help you make the most of the last summer month of the year, I thought I would share 8 ways to spend the month of August in Ireland.

1. Visit Coppenagh House Farm, Carlow

Coppenagh House Farm is a family farm located on the outskirts of Tullow, offering a real farm to fork experience through its livestock, farm shop and coffee box. The farm shop sells various Irish produce from food and drink to clothing, while also stocking beef directly sourced from the farm, locally prepared and packaged by an award winning butcher. Outside the shop you will also find a cute coffee box brewing delicious coffee and serving tasty treats.

Who knew cows and coffee would be such a wonderful combination!

2. Go sunflower picking at the Cloneygath Airfield, Monasterevin

Are you looking for a unique and picturesque activity? Look no further than sunflower picking at the Cloneygath Airfield! Located in the heart of Monasterevin, this hidden gem offers an enchanting experience for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. Open until the end of August from 11am to 4pm daily.

3. Brunch at Grangecon Kitchen, Wicklow

Grangecon Kitchen is is a restaurant, bakery and deli serving both brunch and dinner in a cute, picturesque tent. Closed for summer up until the 23rd of August, however once it reopens, I encourage you to look no further when it comes to organising brunch dates.

4. Go to the cinema

Thanks to Barbie, Little Mermaid and Elemental, I have visited the cinema more in the last 3 months than I have over the last year, and with more great movie releases due, I feel like I will continue to frequent the cinemas more often.

If you are stuck for what to watch and just want the cinematic experience with a large coke and popcorn in hand, then look no further than Odeon’s Screen Unseen, where you can watch highly acclaimed pre-release films from as little as €6, with a plot…. you won’t know which film you are seeing until the cinema lights go down.

5. Deep clean your room

Need I say anymore than declutter, donate and refresh your space! You will only have yourself to thank once you have made the time and completed this task.

6. Bake a yummy treat

Thanks to instagram and tiktok, we are constantly being bombarded with tasty recipes to recreate in the comfort of our own homes. The most recent recipe frequenting my timeline is homemade pain au chocolates using kinder chocolate and puff pastry.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJpSby8E/

7. Visit the Mueller and O’Connell Bakery in Abbeyleix

If baking isn’t quite your thing, Mueller and O’Connell Bakery is the fastest solution for your insta worthy baked goods.

8. Roam around the streets of Dublin City

Ditch the rigid plans and have a Dublin day out free of major commitments. You’d be surprised at the shops, restaurants and cafe’s, you will find as you wander freely.

Halfway Mark

Hi lovelies,

It has been forever and a half since I’ve written and published anything, here, on my little corner of the internet, and boy have I missed it.

Life this year has been all sorts of busy. December last year marked my move into my first ever rented property and with that came many new adult challenges such as budgeting, time management, meal planning and so much more! And while it’s all been quite an expensive venture, I am so grateful to have unlocked a new level of independence.

This year has been filled with so many highs thus far. I have travelled, laughed, caffeinated and even had my first ever afternoon tea!

I cannot believe that it is the month of July already. There is only six more months remaining in the year, I repeat, only 6!

“Six months from now you will either have six months of excuses or six months of progress. The path you choose is yours and yours alone.”

My goal for the next six months is to be a little more intentional with my time, money and resources in order to ensure that I am in a better space mentally, physically, financially and spiritually, by the end of the year. I want to focus my energy on things that spark my dreams, visions and desires. Amongst many other things, this means that I will be posting more blogs once again!

“Life is not about achievement, it’s about learning and growth… And so if that is the case, then I think our goals should include something which stretches us.”

Jack Canfield

I am so excited to embrace and grow with, what the remainder of the year has in stock.

I hope it is overflowing with laughter, adventure, love, gratitude and goodness for each of us.

How to stand firm in the face of adversity

Hi lovelies,

Happy new month! Can’t believe we’re half way through the year, and into the summer months, already. I hope you are all keeping well, and that life is treating you kindly.

In today’s blogpost I wanted to write a piece of encouragement for anyone who may be faced with adversities.

With every new day, comes new possibilities, strengths and thoughts. While other days, also bring the least expected obstacles and challenges. The nature, significance and extent of these obstacles and challenges vary from person to person, however, the importance of standing firm in the face of these adversities, remains the great equaliser.

It’s now been two long years since the panoramic halted all of our lives, and although we somehow learnt to just ride the endless waves of uncertainty – it is important to consciously learn to stand firm when adversities strike, rather than allow the waves to drown us out.

Based on my own experience, one can learn to stand firm by;

  1. Shifting your mindset
  2. Establishing a strong support system, and,
  3. Consciously reflecting and redirecting

1. Shifting your mindset

It’s true what they say, your perception directly impacts your reality. Quite simply put, we see the world, not as it is, but as we are!

If you don’t like something in your life, change it! And I know that can be easier said than done, but with the right focus and dedication, you can make your dreams and desires a reality.

“The problems you face are not STOP signs, they are guidelines.”

Your life is controlled by what you focus on, so focus on the good.

2. Establishing a strong support system

Having a strong support system is pertinent during trying times. Ensure that your immediate circle of family and friends are a reliable and strong source of support to you, and focus on creating boundaries and/or mending those that aren’t.

I once read a quote that said: “Whatever you are going through in life, both positive and negative, takes a village – because you are not meant to go through it alone”.

Healthy and strong support systems are sources of wisdom & guidance, strength & hope, and, understanding & compassion.

Does your current circle of friends and family currently reflect the above characteristics?

3. Consciously reflecting and redirecting

“Without reflection, we go blindly on our way creating more unintended consequences…”

Margaret J. Wheatley

I am a strong believer in all things reflection in both personal and professional life. It is, and has proven to be the key to success, and personal development in my life.

This is at large due to the fact that reflection allows me to pay particular attention to past actions and thoughts, with emphasis on identifying future learning and growth opportunities in my life.

Through reflection, you have the ability to take stock of how you’re living your life and redirect it’s course, where necessary, in advance to unexpected trials and tribulations.

By engaging in ongoing self reflection, you will soon develop a strong sense of resilience and self awareness, which in turn will help you stand firm when faced, with lives endless adversities.

By following the above steps, you will soon learn to view adversities as stepping stones to greatness, rather than stumbling blocks.

City Break in Barcelona

Hi lovelies,

How are you all keeping? I hope you have all had a wonderful week. The long weekend is finally here, and I bet I’m not the only one who was living for it. Like many of us, work life is currently keeping me on my toes, so I often find myself dreaming about my next get-away.

One of my short term goals is to travel more, and see more of the many wonders of the world around me.

So far this year, I have been lucky enough to visit both Spain and Scotland.

In January, I took a 4 day trip to Barcelona to visit a friend of mine. This trip completely exceeded my expectations and highlighted my love for city living.

In today’s blog post I will be breaking down all the best bits of this trip.

DAY ONE

We flew from Dublin Airport at 6:15, and arrived in Barcelona just before 9am, Spanish time.

Upon arrival we went to a local cafe called, La Despensa de Eva.

Here we caught up with one another over coffees and cake! We absolutely adored this place – the customer service and overall presentation of their coffees and treats was impeccable.

Later, we decided to walk around the city, to familiarise ourselves with the area and its amenities.

I quickly fell in love with the architecture as we walked through the streets. The high rise buildings, aesthetics and balconies – I admired it all.

Even their Penneys (Primark) looks high end from the outside of the building!

Soon after our strolls through the city streets, the lack of sleep from the night before finally hit, causing our day of adventure to turn into an evening of catching up on sleep and watching cartoons in our hotel room.

DAY TWO

After a very much needed relaxing evening, we woke up far more energised – ready to take on Barcelona day 2.

First on the itinerary was brunch! We visited a restaurant called Belliny, where we ate our full. The menu here was filled with endless breakfast, brunch and lunch options such as full English, various benedicts, pancakes and even açai! After a lot of debate I ended up ordering their eggs benedict riojanos and fresh seasonal fruit.

After our brunch, we wandered around Barcelona city once again.

On our strolls we came across the Sagrada Familia. We opted not to book tickets to enter the grounds, however from the outside we were able to take in the beauty of the building.

Right outside the church you also find stands of local artists selling their work, here you can purchase beautiful paintings and drawings of the Sagrada Familia, amongst other things.

Later in the day, we visited the St Joseph La Boqueria, which is a public market in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is renowned for being one of the most picturesque markets. Inside you will find most, if not all food types, from pick n’ mix stands to fish and meat stands and everything else in between.

Next door to the marketplace, you will find a DUNKIN’ Donuts and Starbucks, where we treated ourselves to coffees and doughnuts after our wander through the market. From there, we decided to call it a day, order a take away and take endless photos in our matching pyjamas.

DAY THREE

Having had another quiet night we woke up ready for another day of exploration. We started our last full day in Barcelona, dining in La Despensa de Eva, where I got a toasted chicken sandwich and chai latte.

Later in the afternoon, we decided to visit Park Güell. Tickets were €10.00 each, and available to purchase from the entrance, using a QR code.

Upon entry into the park we were met with a lovely uphill walk way, which led us to the most scenic view of the city.

Fun fact; some scenes of Disney’s, Cheetah Girls 2 was filmed in Park Güell. My inner child was fan girling, just by being here.

I got to experience the public transport in Spain for the very first time this day, and I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable, consistent and reliable it was, in comparison to good ol’ Ireland.

Later that evening, we decided to have something a little more Spanish for dinner. We went for tapas near La Plaça de Catalunya. The garlic prawns I ordered were to die for.

For the rest of the evening we strolled around Barcelona city, taking in a few more sights we’d missed the days before.

We stopped for coffees in starbucks after this, and then later that night we decided to order a Mc Donalds. I finally got to try their patatas deluxe and white chocolate sundae that are exclusive to the Spanish menu… and might I say, we are definitely missing out here in Ireland.

I absolutely enjoyed visiting Barcelona – I would even go as far as saying that it is one of my favourite cities to date. Definitely one for the bucket list, if you haven’t yet visited it.

Lessons I learnt in 2021

Hi lovelies,

Happy New Month! I guess it’s far too late for me to wish you all a Happy New Year, seeing as we’re now well into the month of February. However, I hope 2022 has been good to each of you thus far, and I wish you all nothing but happiness, success and good health throughout the year.

I know it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted anything on here, but today I wanted to share some of the life lessons I learnt over the last year. 2021 was a whirlwind of a year for me. It was filled with so many highs and just as many lows. It was definitely a year that pushed me out of my comfort zones, changed my mindset, and also caused me to consider the fact that not everything is always as it seems.

When I look back on the previous year, here are 3 major life lessons that I learnt.

1. Trust your gut

I’m sure we’ve all heard the old saying “trust your gut”. It refers to listening to your intuition. By doing so, this enables us to avoid unhealthy situations and relationships.

Over the last year, I was lucky enough to work overseas – and as wonderful as the opportunity was – in one way or another, it continously reminded me of the importance of staying true to oneself.

More often than not, I was forced to refocus on my gut feelings, and although this would sometimes feel similar to physical feelings associated with anxiety, in due time I would always feel a sense of safety, peace and even happiness, once I had followed my gut.

“Sometimes we create our own heartbreaks through ignoring our intuition”

2. Do not overly depend on any one person

Now before I delve into this point, I want to start by saying that I am a firm believer in the proverb that states that ‘no man is an island’, meaning that none of us are truly self sufficient. We desire human connections for comfort and community.

However, that doesn’t mean we should overly depend on any one person, whether that be your partner, best friend, cousin, mother, father and/or sibling.

The reality is, that we came into this world alone, and we’ll leave it alone. So, whilst we continue to rely on community in order to thrive in each of our individual lives, let’s learn to also stand alone. Become comfortable in your own company – there is honestly nothing more empowering than learning to enjoy ones solitude. By doing so you will quickly grow to learn that your happiness, self worth and state of contentment is not determined by others.

“Never search for happiness in others, it will make you feel alone. Search for it within yourself, you will feel happy even when you’re left alone”

3. Admitting you need help is okay

“One of the biggest defects in life is the inability to ask for help”

Everyone of us require help, and support every once in a while – and this is perfectly fine. As mentioned previously, ‘no man is an island’, therefore we cannot and shouldn’t expect ourselves to carry troubles all on our own.

Unfortunately, many of us still struggle to ask for help, even when we desperately need it. As a result we leave ourselves open to feelings of depression which may also result in the deterioration of our careers and relationships. Some of us have the belief that to be considered a ‘strong individual’ you must be able to face all your challenges on your own. However, this is very far from the truth.

By asking for help when we need it, we save ourselves from a lot of unnecessary emotional burden.

Remember, “a problem shared is a problem halved”

In the words of Barack Obama,

“… Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don’t know something, and then allows you to learn something new.”

2009

I could continue to list out many other lessons I learnt over the course of 2021, but I thought I would keep this blog short and sweet. I hope that this blog post resonated with at least one of you, and reinforced something that you needed to hear.

With that being said, I hope 2022 is filled with nothing but growth for each every single one of us.

Reflect, refresh and refocus as often, and as much as you need to.

Love, Nyasha x

Count your blessings

Hi lovelies,

Firstly, I just want to say a massive thank you for all the support shown in my previous blogpost – writing has always been one of my favourite pastimes, so I really appreciate every single interaction shown on what I put out there.

In today’s blog post, I wanted to talk a little bit about gratitude and why it’s important to count your blessings.

In life, it is so easy to fall victim to the fallacy of permanence, most of us don’t stop to recognise our good fortune and blessings until they are gone. When asked, I would usually describe myself, as having a glass half full mindset, however quiet recently I noticed that I was slipping into constant and frequent states of ingratitude. In these moments I would moan and grumble about everything and anything under the sun, and because of this, my overall mindset became rather negative. Luckily, I quickly realised this and decided to intentionally focus a little more on the good in my life.

I once read a quote that said;

” A sincere attitude of gratitude is a beatitude for secured altitudes. Appreciate what you have been given and you will be promoted higher.”

Israelmore Ayivor

Having now, readapted my attitude of gratitude, I have come to see a positive change in my life. I am making it more of a habit to express thankfulness and appreciation in all areas, no matter how big or small. This in turn has made me feel so much more satisfied with life, because I am no longer seeking for more. I am consciously making the decision to live in the present moment.

So if you haven’t done so in a while, I would personally encourage you to write down some of the things you’re grateful for. This could include simple things such as, food, clothing, family and friends; or even more elaborate things such as life’s challenges, love, laughter and even heartbreaks.

You will be surprised at how full your heart feels as you come to realize how much you have to be thankful for.

Life in Cyprus

Hi lovelies,

Hope you’re all keeping well? As I mentioned in my previous blogpost – I am currently working and living in the beautiful island of Cyprus and have been for over 4 months now.

In comparison to Ireland, life here has been undeniably brighter, hotter and also filled with endless adventure.

In today’s blog post I’ll be sharing what I’ve been getting up to since arriving in May. I will be sharing some of my favourite spots on the island for sight seeing, dining, relaxing and so much more.

Paphos Harbour and Port

The coastline in Paphos was one of the first places I ever explored when I first arrived in Cyprus. I immediately fell in love with the sunset view and sound of the waves here, and to be honest can you blame me…

Just look at some of the photos I’ve taken over the months, isn’t the place just to die for.

The harbour offers a peaceful walk right by the shoreline while also having a myriad of restaurants, shops and bars to choose from. Some of my favourite restaurants that can be found along the harbour are; Mpania, Pingouino and Alea Allday Lifestyle.

Sight Seeing

Since arriving in Cyprus, I have had plenty of opportunities to explore the island beyond the district in which I reside. Below I have listed some of the sights I’ve visited, and loved.

Edro III Shipwreck

The Edro III is a shipwreck located in Pegia, Paphos, down by the Sea Cave Avenue.

This ship has been stranded on the rocks in the sea caves area since the 8th of December 2011 when it was involved in an accident, after it struck a rock and became disabled and finally went ashore, and has been stranded ever since.

This shipwreck is definitely a must see sight in Cyprus, as it is considerded an amazing spot for photo opportunities

Tombs of the Kings

Tombs of the Kings, is one of the most important archeological sites of Cyprus. The monumental tombs that you will find here are actually of high ranking aristocracy and officials, which date back to the Roman and Hellenistic periods.

The entrance fee to visit the archaeological site is €2.50 and is definitely a must see sight for its architecture.

Troodos Mountains

Troodos Mountains is the largest mountain range in Cyprus, offering the perfect escape from the touristic areas of the island. I really enjoyed the view here as it was nothing short of picturesque.

Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark

Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark is the biggest water park in Paphos, offering non stop aqua park fun! This water park is designed for all ages and swimming abilities, with features such as water slides, swimming pools, the lazy river and so much more.

Lazying around on the lazy river

Pafos Zoo

Pafos Zoo is the biggest licensed zoo in Cyprus, and is home to a great range of wildlife, such as birds, meerkats, monkeys, elephants, giraffes, fish, cows, and so much more! They are big on the conservation of all the wildlife in their care and this is heavily reflected in their daily bird shows.

Places to Eat and Drink

If you want to know where’s best to eat and drink when in Cyprus, look no further.

Below I’ve attached a slideshow of some of my favourite food and drink places, here in Cyprus . For brunch, my go to places are Pingouino and Omikron, For late lunches, dinners and drinks, my favs are Wagamamas, Suite 48, Porto Bello and Alea Allday Lifestyle. If you need of a treat, Sweet n’ Boujee is your spot – there doughnuts are to die for!

All in all, I think visiting Cyprus should be on everyone’s bucket list. The island really does have so much to offer, and I am so grateful to be able to call it home.

New normal; how I’m coping during all the uncertainty

Hey lovelies,

How are you all keeping? I know it’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything on here, but I think it’s about time I got back to sharing life with all of you. As I’m sat here writing this blogpost, I just can’t believe we are already half way through the year of 2021.

Like… how is there only 6 months of the year to go?!?

I repeat, HOW?!?

With the pandemic still lurking about, life for so many of us, may still feel very repetitive and filled with endless uncertainties. However, with every passing day, it’s important to remember that YOU have the ability to regain power over YOUR life.

Over the last few months, I personally have gone through a whirlwind of emotions – I’ve experienced so many highs and just as many lows, but by reminding myself that better days lie ahead, I found the strength to carry on, and continue to do so, even on the hard days.

At this present moment I am lucky enough to be living life in the beautiful island of Cyprus. In March, I somehow managed to land the job of my dreams, during a pandemic, over seas and in the sun! How lucky is that?, and it’s all because I stopped allowing current situations I found myself in, to limit me.

So, to those of you feeling powerless over the direction and course of your life – today I encourage you, to acknowledge the real and ever present uncertainties you are faced with. Then begin to focus on the things you can control, while allowing for and accepting that uncertainty is a natural and inevitable part of each and everyone of our lives, with or without the pandemic. The truth is, in order to take control over your life, we need to learn to better tolerate, and even embrace the inevitable uncertainties that come our way.

By doing so, some of the most beautiful chapters in our lives will unfold because “when nothing is certain everything seems possible”.

Lockdown, yet again…

Hi lovelies,

I hope you’re all keeping well, despite some of us being back under lockdown.

Yes, you read that right, lockdown número dos, for the unlucky residents of Kildare, Laois and Offaly.

Regardless of the circumstances, let’s try not to lose hope.

We’ve all been through a lockdown before, and despite how hard it was. We got through it!

So in everything that we do, and as we go about our day to day business, let’s continue to support one another through this strange season.

It’s important we don’t lose hope of a better tomorrow, because of the current circumstances we may face. In times like this, I think it’s important to tell ourselves, to …

“Stop being afraid of what can go wrong and start being positive about what can go right”

In due time things will get better, but till then let’s all continue to make a conscious effort to do our part to minimize the risk.

July Favourites

Hi lovelies,

Hope you’re keeping well? Today I’m back with yet another blog post, to showcase all the bits I’ve been loving recently. So let’s get into it!

Skincare

The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

The Ordinary’s Peeling Solution has quickly become one of my favourite skincare products. My skin looks and feels, so good after exfoliating with it. However, if you’re skin is even slightly sensitive (like mine), it might just sting a little when you first use it – but trust me it’s worth it. I now understand why it is always out of stock online!

Yes To - Grapefruit Single Use Bubbling Paper Mask

Another skincare product I loved this month was the Yes To Grapefruit, Bubbling Paper Mask. This product made my skin feel amazing and brought an influx of fun to my skincare routine.

Haircare

Truth being told, when it comes down to haircare – I can be quite lazy. However this month I promised myself that I would try to do better.

If you follow my Instagram, @niiash_a, you know I’ve been loving wigs lately. Maintaining my natural hair is very important while I switch from wig to wig. I’ve been loving the Cantu Argan Oil, Repair Cream to keep my hair well moisturised under the wig caps.

I have also been loving Melt Effect’s, Premium Glue Remover. This product has been SAVING my edges whenever I uninstall my wigs and I love the fact that a little goes such a long way. Did I mention that this product is from a Black Owned Business, in Ireland?!?

What I’ve been listening to

Road trips, worship sessions, dance parties, you name it! There’s a song for every occasion in this months playlist.

What I’ve been watching

Now that lockdown is easing, YouTube content is getting adventurous again – and I just love it! Here are some of my favourite videos from last month – I would also really appreciate if someone could recommend some shows they’ve been loving on Netflix cause clearly I am wasting my subscription.

I hope you have enjoyed yet another blog filled with my monthly favourites. Please let me know if you purchase/watch/listen to anything I have mentioned.

How to minimise the stress you’re feeling concerning Covid-19

Hi lovelies,

I hope you and your loved ones are all keeping well during these unprecedented times, and doing your part to minimise the spread of coronavirus by wearing your masks, washing your hands and avoiding overly crowded areas.

Today I wanted to share a few tips on how to minimise the stress you may be feeling regarding Covid-19, and the mere thought of a second wave.

The times we are currently living in, have proven to be extremely overwhelming to each and everyone of us – not only as individuals but also as a society. It’s very important that we continue to look after our health, both physically and mentally. Here is a few ways to do so;

1. Limit your consumption of news – especially if it’s not from a credible source

I’m sure I’m not the only one, whose overall news consumption skyrocketed at the start of the pandemic. We were all craving to stay informed in order to control all the uncertainy. However, like most of you, I quickly learnt that this obsession led to fatigue and/or anxiety.

Whether we are progressing or regressing, I think it’s important for us to come to terms with how much news is too much for our mental health. It’s important that we stay informed, but it’s equally important that we learn to accept what is beyond our control. We need to remain focused on the factors that we can control.

2. Do your part

Although the pandemic has restricted the extent to which we live our lives, we all still have a part to play in order to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

By making a conscious effort to follow the regulations and guidelines advised, we can all continue to take better care of ourselves both physically and mentally whilst still enjoying the things we love.

3. Do not depend on your own understanding

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”

Proverbs 3:5

During these unprecedented times, its so easy for our minds to run wild and imagine all the worst case scenarios.

One thing that significantly helped me and continues to help me during this season, is remembering that God is in control.

I know some of you reading this may not be believers, but my encouragement for each of us is taken from a quote that says,

“There is HOPE, even when your brain tells you there isn’t”

John Green

Have faith that things will work out.

What’s for you, won’t pass you by

Hi lovelies,

How are you all keeping?

I know it’s been some time since I’ve uploaded a blog post, but I felt that I needed to take a little time, to focus on me.

Having finished college, I have had to make a lot more ‘adult’ decisions concerning the course of my life. The transition from college into the big bad adult world, isn’t half as fun, as I once imagined. Instead, it has been filled with confusion, states of worry and anxiety.

More often than not, I find myself questioning whether I’m heading in the right direction or whether I should be doing a lot more, in order to keep up with the pace. These feelings come from an innate desire to control every aspect of my life and everything in my future.

If you’re anything like me, you need to remind yourself, that the need to control, can sometimes stem from a state of fear. Fear of missing out, fear of failure and fear of being left behind. These fears do nothing but hold us back from experiencing all that life has to offer. They keep us from achieving our goals and living our lives to the fullest.

“Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over, instead of craving control over what you don’t”

Steve Maraboli

If you relate to feeling worried, confused or anxious concerning the path your life is taking, these words are for you.

Everything will work out. The sky is your limit and the only thing that can hold you back is your mindset – so remain positive concerning your situation.

I know it may seem like your world is crashing, but soon every piece will perfectly align itself.

What’s for you, won’t pass you by.

Continue to ride the waves. I’m sure you’ll find your true direction in due time.

Racial issues are not a thing of the past.

Hi lovelies,

How are you all keeping? I just want to start today’s blogpost, by saying a massive thank you to each and everyone of you, for all the support in my previous post. I am so happy to be back writing, and I look forward to creating much more exciting content, during these summer months.

However, in the mean time, I write today’s blogpost with a very heavy heart.

I’m sure by now you have all heard about the death of George Floyd. The black man who was murdered in Minneapolis on the 25th of May, 2020. Floyd was knelt on, and pinned to the ground by law enforcement, to the point that he was no longer able to breathe. This case is one of many, that captures the ever present reality of police brutality and racism in modern society. It seems like lately, these cases are becoming a lot more frequent, and as a black person this causes me a lot of grief.

In the last few days, I have found myself questioning whether my life, and the lives of those that look like me, matter at all, in today’s society. It has been 155 years since the end of the American Civil War, yet race still divides us not only in the United States, but also across the globe. More often than not, we are still faced with prejudices, inequalities, injustices, and racial discrimination, despite the good fight, activists such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and Malcom X, fought in the past.

So why does it seem like very little has changed? Why does it feel like we are regressing rather than progressing? What happened to treating everyone with dignity, respect and equality?

Where is the love for one another?

I for one, would love to know the answers to these questions – but for now, it’s important that we stand as one, to remind ourselves, and others, that;

#BLACKLIVESMATTER,

we matter,

you matter,

and I matter.

Despite the message that may be flooding your timeline at present, please remember that you are of value. The colour of your skin is not a threat – it is not a weapon that that needs to be contained, restrained, oppressed and destroyed.

Black is beautiful, has, and forever will be.

Always remember that.

Dear Class of 2020

Hey lovelies,

I know it’s been some time since I’ve written a blog, but now that I am finally done my degree, I hope to be posting much more content.

Today’s blogpost goes out to the Class of 2020 – the final year college students and those in their 6th year of secondary school.

This one is for us.

Who would have known, that we would be finishing our final months of education in the midst of a pandemic. COVID-19, has stripped us of one of the most cherished moments of our youth. We were supposed to have finished the final few months of eduction, alongside our peers, but instead this journey ended over emails, zoom calls and online classes.

It was not supposed to be this way.

If you’re anything like me, you have experienced a whirlwind of emotions, in the last few weeks. The virus forced us to quickly adapt to the new normal, and accept changes that have taken away from our educational experience. This adaption has created feelings of uncertainty concerning our futures and has brought about increased levels of anxiety and stress.

However, I would like to encourage each of us with the following words.

I know times are unprecedented, but do not lose hope. We may not know what lies ahead of us but let’s endeavour to persevere. The world is still our oyster and what’s meant for us, won’t pass us by.

Despite the circumstance, you still have so much potential and a purpose to fulfil. Times are tough right now, but don’t let the dark clouds erase your hopes and visions.

“Remember, this too shall pass.”

How to motivate yourself during the academic year

Hi lovelies,

How are you all keeping?

It honestly feels like I haven’t checked in with all of you, in months!

I’m currently just trying to survive the final four months of my degree, therefore, I have very limited time for writing. However, today I wanted to share three simple ways to motivate yourself during the academic year.

  1. Talk to your friends

Friendships are an integral part of the college experience.

The friends you make in college play a major role in most, if not all, of the college memories you’ll cherish for life.

Although they are great to party with, never forget how relatable they are.

You are all in this academic journey together, therefore, they know more than anyone else, how demotivating, the whole learning process may sometimes be.

College is like a never ending rollercoaster.

There are many highs, but with them, comes just as much lows.

Assignment deadlines are nothing but demotivating – once you finish a task, there’s always another one lingering around the corner. The cycle just never seems to end!

This cycle, often leaves students feeling drained, physically and emotionally, and, as a consequence, doubtful thoughts begin to blossom.

College friends are crucial in times where you may feel this way.

By talking to one another you will soon feel reassured, not alone, hopeful and comforted.

2. Focus on the bigger picture

College is full of endless hurdles, that can sometimes leave you questioning, if you are wasting your time or not. In the process of attaining your degree, you often lose focus of your goals, and although this is very natural, do not allow yourself to lose all hope.

Instead, focus on the bigger picture.

Remind yourself of why you applied to college.

Remind yourself, of the many achievements you wish to accomplish, and never stop striving for what you want! – no matter how hard it may seem at times.

College is a stepping stone to all your future career goals. So give it your best shot!

3. Celebrate little achievements

As mentioned above, college assignments and deadlines are seemingly never-ending.

Therefore, make sure to celebrate yourself, once you’ve completed one.

You deserve to celebrate all the hard work, tears, energy and dedication that you’ve spent whilst completing each task.

By celebrating your achievements, you give yourself, the necessary shot of motivation needed to get to the end.

Staying motivated in college, is imperative to your success.

If you’re anything like me, and sometimes have trouble motivating yourself, try applying these tips to help you stay driven, as you approach graduation.

This college year is almost over, and summer 2020 will soon be in reach, so get yourself motivated, and FAST!

“You don’t want to look back and know you could’ve done better”.

New Year, New Decade.

Hi lovelies,

Happy New Year! 2019 has come and gone, and a new decade has finally arrived. The last year has been truly amazing! I grew as an individual, learnt valuable life lessons and learnt to appreciate the ugly that sometimes comes with the good in life. In today’s blog post I wanted to share three tips on how to slay the coming year!

If you are anything like the rest of the population, the new year often comes with the pressure to change up your life in order to be the best possible version of you.

However, this facade can sometimes be so detrimental to our wellbeing, as it often adds unnecessary pressure to succeed.

The use of social media often adds to this, as our feeds slowly become filled with endless #goals, gym updates and healthy eating posts – and although these can all be a source of encouragement to the rest of us – dwelling on posts like this on a day to day basis can sometimes do more harm than good.

But just before we allow the January blues to get to us, I wanted to share a few ways to make this year your very own!

*Remember it’s never too late*

1. Reflect

You only have one life, so make the most out of it!

Every year is a fresh start, a whole new chapter to rewrite YOUR destiny, YOUR hopes and YOUR dreams.

Not the dreams of the people you follow on Instagram, or the people that surround you on a daily basis.

But your own!

So take some time to reflect on the last year.

Reflect on mistakes, downfalls and shortcomings , and make a plan to ensure that you come out stronger this year.

Identify your weaknesses, establish ground rules and stop undermining your worth!

“Don’t be afraid to fail. Be afraid not to try”

2. Write down YOUR goals

The process of writing down your goals allows you to refocus your attention on what really matters.

There’s just something about being able, to see your goals, all written in one place, that is so motivating.

By writing down your aspirations, you create a physical reminder of what you hope to achieve – something that you can always look at when you feel demotivated.

So make some time, grab a notebook and start writing down your heart desires!

As Steve Maraboli once said, “If you have a goal. Write it down. If you do not write it down, you do not have a goal – you have a wish.”

3. Only make time for things that bring you joy

I think we can all agree that life is so much better when you spend time doing the things that you enjoy.

So this year I challenge everyone reading this, to make as much time for things that put a smile on our faces.

You would be surprised, at how much your life could change by simply taking time out of your mundane day to day tasks, to find ways to incorporate the things and people you love.

When we spend time doing the things we love, we become happier, healthier and more successful, because our lives are driven by passion and not by the endless demands of life.

January 2020, and the months that follow, are all brand new opportunities, for all of us, to create the life of our dreams!

Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back!

Start doing you, for you!

Why prioritizing yourself, is the best decision you’ll ever make

Hi lovelies,

How are you all keeping?

Before I dive into today’s blog post, I just want to apologize for the lack of content on this blog lately. The reality is that, college has finally decided to take its preeminence in my life again. Deadlines are beginning to pile up on me, and as a result, for the time being, I have no other choice but to prioritize my education, meaning content on the blog will now be limited to when I can, instead of on a weekly basis.

I am not saying goodbye, but I am just giving each of you a heads up, not to be expecting a weekly blog post as I was previously accustomed to. Instead I will try pop on as often as I can, with as much advice, updates and positive energy, as possible!

For the time being, I just want to say thank you for the continuous support that each of you have given me since starting – I honestly feel like I can never say it enough.

For all the shares, comments, words of encouragement and for simply taking the time to read what I put out. Thank you!

Anyways… enough of the soppy stuff. Let’s get into the topic, of today’s blog post;

Why prioritizing yourself, is the best decision you’ll ever make.

Growing up, I was always that child who would drop everything and anything to be there for the people around me.

I have a very giving personality and I never really knew my limit. I would bend backwards for people who would rarely do the same for me.

As I went through my teenage years, I quickly identified this trait and how detrimental it was becoming for me. I was beginning to feel exhausted, frustrated and even angry when I would not receive the same energy I would consistently give out.

I would question my self worth, identity, friendships and life itself. All because I had convinced myself that I loved being a giver. That I am someone everyone should be able to count on, when they are in need.

From a young age we are all taught that giving is the best way to show kindness.

We are all guilty at chorusing the idea that ‘sharing is caring’ – but never explaining to what extent. No wonder why it becomes so easy for some of us to get caught up in unhealthy cycles that may begin to take a toil on our health.

When your constantly the one who gives and gives, you risk burning yourself out. Your well, begins to run dry, and as a result you begin to form resentful feelings.

If you relate to ever feeling any of the above emotions because of your tendency to give a little more than is necessary, I want to encourage you to find a balance.

Begin to identify when your giving out of love or when you’re giving out of guilt and negativity.

Unfortunately I can’t tell you exactly how to find this balance for yourself, but what I can share, is how doing so, for myself, has benefited me.

1. I began to value myself

As I mentioned above, over giving caused me to develop negative emotions. It took a significant toil on my self-esteem and made me question my self worth and value. I almost began to feel like it was normal for people to walk all over me. However, once I identified the negative emotions, that stemmed from giving too much. I quickly began to put value on myself.

Now I have learnt to quickly take two steps back, when I feel under appreciated or taken for granted.

I’m not saying that I expect to be thanked or praised when I go out of my way for someone, but if I’m constantly questioning the other individuals intentions, my time will quickly become limited.

2. My giving became much more genuine

If you were to ask me what my favorite characteristic, that I possess is, I would undoubtedly say that it is my giving spirit.

However at one point in time, I found myself giving for all the wrong reasons. I remember feeling guilty and under pressure, to do it all! To give, because it made me look good, or because I felt morally obliged to.

To overcome this, I had to learn to prioritize my own needs, and as a result, I started giving from a cheerful place, once again!

I took care of my own needs, which in turn gave me the energy necessary, to take care of, and put energy that was light, joyful and void of pressure, into others.

3. I began to focus on my own goals

When your a naturally giving person, it is very easy to focus entirely on other individuals, besides yourself.

You begin to focus all your time and energy into them, leaving little to no time for you. You slowly become sidetracked by their life, and slowly begin to divert all attention, away from your own ambitions and plans.

By balancing how much of me, I was giving to people, I began to regain my own zeal for life. I no longer craved that thrill, I got from helping people. I stopped allowing, giving to be the only drive I had in life. I realized I had more to offer!

Prioritizing myself, was and is one of the best decisions I have ever made, because it caused me to develop as an individual. I became an even happier person, because I grew to be content in myself, as opposed to being content in the way others saw me. I started to become (well at least tried…), as invested in myself as I was in others.

To whoever this has resonated with – I beg you to find your balance. Stop feeling guilty. Let go of the pressures of society.

Protect your energy, by prioritizing yourself.

Yes it’s all well and good, to be there for everyone and anyone, but if you can’t even be there for yourself, what good are you?

Reminder; You are allowed to help yourself before you help others.

The Pressure of Young Success

Hi lovelies,

It’s been less than a week, but it honestly feels like forever since I sat down at my laptop with the intent to blog. I actually miss having all the time in the world for blogging – but now I’m back to routines, time tables and managing college assignments, what a dream!

Whilst getting ready for work, last Sunday I decided to incorporate something new into my morning routine; listening to a podcast! Considering I had a lot of catching up to do, I decided to tune into ‘Stallion’ a podcast hosted by Agnes – Clara Dikoum (available across multiple platforms).

While scrolling through her podcasts, a particular one titled “Pressure of Young Success”, caught my attention. With college back in the works, and graduation 2020 on my mind, the thoughts of success and what to do next, are constantly lingering in my head.

It’s crazy, isn’t it. We go from being children who couldn’t care less about what’s to come, to young people, who desire control in every phase of our lives. If you are anything like me, your mind begins to time travel – and ever so vividly, at that. You begin to imagine yourself 5 years older, financially stable, with a house, car, husband, and a secure job you love. All of which don’t occur overnight but somehow you begin to desire, that this could be your reality.

In May 2018, a survey undertaken by the Mental Health Foundation, found that six out of ten young people, between the ages of 18-24, have felt so stressed by the pressures to succeed, that they began struggling to cope with life’s demands.

Although alarming, these figures don’t even surprise me in the slightest.

In a world that is populated with pressure, not only from your family and friends, but also celebrities, influencers, ‘instagram goals’ and much, much more – it is so hard, not to get sunk into the idea that success occurs over night.

On a daily basis, we are fed unrealistic expectations of what life should consist of, how we should be living, or what stage of life we should be at.

For some of us, our goals are set to be completed by the age of 25 and for others it could be 30.

This mindset however, can be so unrealistic and detrimental for our futures.

I’m not saying you can’t be successful by the age of 30 – Forbes 30 under 30, already argues otherwise. However, it is important to remember that success is not always measured by power, status, fame and/or money.

The word success is described in the Cambridge Dictionary as “the [achievemnet] of … results wanted or hoped for”. These results are not limited to time and can be achieved on the straight or narrow path, depending on the individual and their resources. By staying determined and consistent, and by accepting failures, set backs and obstacles, we each have the ability to come out on top.

Don’t let other people’s definitions of success define you.

Stop underestimating yourself

Hi lovelies,

Before I get into this weeks blogpost, I just want to say my sincere apologies for not posting one last week. I was honestly so exhausted by the time it got to the weekend, and just kept experiencing writing blocks whenever I sat down to write. Thankfully I’m well rested now, the sun is shining and I am feeling super motivated to conquer the week!

Yesterday as I was scrolling through Instagram, I came across a quote that read “Stop underestimating yourself”.

Tomorrow, I start my final year in college – and I’d be lying to you, if I was to say that, I wasn’t feeling worried and overwhelmed. Quite simply, the thoughts of ‘THE THESIS’ scare me! When I think about gathering all the research involved in it, I start to undermine not only my abilities but also myself.

For some reason, in my head I have managed to construct the belief that I am going to walk into my Research Project module and be flung into the deep end with 0 assistance. However, in reality, I know this won’t be the case. I can be rest assured that my lecturers, friends and family will be there every step of the way – to offer guidance, support and encouragement when in need.

This year surely wont be the easiest but I will definitely pull through it.

“Sometimes when you are the closest to your breakthrough the pressure is the greatest. You have come too far to give up now!” – Joyce Meyer

Whether you are starting college, going into your final year, or embarking on a new life venture, do not underestimate yourself.

Believe in your abilities.

Each of us was born with the potential to do great things – but those great things can only come to flourish when we believe.

“You must expect great things of yourself, before you can do them”

Summer 2019, Recap

“You know all those things you’ve always wanted to do? You should go do them”

Hi lovelies,

As we are drawing near to the end of summer now, I just wanted to do a quick recap of my summer, and all it had to offer me. This summer I vowed to myself to live life to the fullest and seize any opportunity to do things I found fulfilling. Although I didn’t get the opportunity to fly out to live my best life, or jaiye at Afronation, I can confidently say that, Summer 2019, you have been too good.

Despite having started my summer sick and brittle, I quickly recovered after plenty of much needed rest and once better, I didn’t waste any time to start making plans with those I love.

May

After 10 days of not seeing them, the college girls and I met up for a shopping trip in Dublin City. As someone who used not to be very confident in their navigation of the town, I was pleasantly surprised on how good my navigation was. We spent the day gallivanting, and to end the day we went to TGI Friday’s, on Temple Bar.

June

June was such a busy month for me. On the 2nd of June, I decided to finally bite the bullet and start this blog – meaning any spare time I once had, was and is now spent typing. However, thankfully, it has been such a wonderful and surreal experience thanks to all of you who have been reading them on a weekly basis.

Other than working and integrating blogging to my lifestyle, I also tried to spend some quality time with my family.

This was also the month that I got engrossed in all thing Love Island despite my original dismissal of the show. Without getting into too much detail, I’m actually happy that I ended up watching the show, as I gained some valuable life lessons (suprise suprise!!).

  1. Sisters before misters ALWAYS!!
  2. Be confident in you
  3. Always expect the unexpected

July

As some of you may know this year I was resident more so in Wexford than Kildare – meaning I had little to no time with my family and friends from home throughout the academic year.

July, however offered plenty of time for me to catch up with those near and dear. Roadtrips, cinema dates and everything in between were had.

August

As I am writing this, the month of August is not yet over. However, in the next two weeks I will, most likely be spending, most of my days in work, so I will not have much left to recap with you.

So far I have spent this month attending events such as Girlz Arize and CTY 15 hours of Praise. I’ve also been catching up with friends, embarking on road-trips and engaging in family time.

Overall, like I said at the very start of this blog post, I am very content with how my summer has gone this year. I wanted to be productive in whatever I found myself doing, whilst having a nice balance of work and fun – and I can confidently say I did just that.

“Be spontaneous. Be crazy. Leave your comfort zone and live with no regrets.”

My Midnight Lament

Hi lovelies,

As mentioned from the very creation of this blog – Nyasha’s Nook, is a space, I created to offer seclusion and security to those in need, including myself. In today’s blog post I wanted to take a more serious approach, which I hope will not only provide healing to me, but also to those around me who have been affected or who are in similar situations.

Without delving into the whole story, during the week, a situation arose, that caused me to utter the words – ‘I wish I was never abused’.

Later, as I was reflecting on those 5 small yet mighty words, I began to realize the effect everything was still having on my life, to this very day.

For many years I was aware, yet doubted the fact that I was ever a victim of such. However over the last year, I have come to realize that I was maltreated. I was taken advantage of, whether knowingly or unknowingly by certain individuals.

Without getting into the nitty gritty of it all, I still always question what my life would have been like, if I had never experienced the things I did. Would I have been more ambitious? Would I trust more? Would I have a higher self esteem? The queries only go on and on…

Despite the fact that the reality of it all, is horrific. I choose to not let it define me. I choose to let go of the hurt, bitterness and pain associated with the sheer thoughts of the experiences. I am deciding not to allow it to affect my life negatively any longer.

Yes, there will be days that it will be a lot harder to pick myself up from the bitterness, but I will at least make the effort to stand up tall, and to encourage those behind me.

The sad reality, is that, each of us has been abused in one way or another, whether sexually, physically, mentally, verbally, emotionally, financially and/or spiritually. These forms of abuse can occur, for both short and long periods of time, and their effects may vary from one individual to the next.

If you are reading this and you are/have been a victim of abuse, these affirmations are for you;

I am loved.

I am appreciated.

I am valued.

I will prosper.

I have a purpose.

I will succeed.

I will be patient with myself as I heal.

“You will overcome this”

Hi lovelies,

Yes, here I am, actually fulfilling my promise to deliver a second blog post this week. Congratulations to me!

Whilst scrolling through Instagram the other night (as you do), I came across a quote that read “YOU WILL OVERCOME THIS” – and I don’t know whether it was the pink writing the words were displayed on, or the words themselves that resonated with me. But I suddenly felt an undeniable sense of comfort.

I began to think about the post I saw on Instagram, at the start of the week, from an individual who was out for a walk but stumbled upon a teenager who had just received their results – under a tree branch with a rope straddling down, within seconds of taking their own life. I began to think about my family and friends who are going through times where they feel like all hope is gone. I also, began to think about me… and the things that worry me from time to time. The things I think I will never achieve or accomplish.

I then began to think about all the things that I had overcome, such as secondary school, consistent negative thinking, state exams and 2nd year college exams (cause those were a real struggle this year). I began to realize that at one point in time, I also believed that I would never overcome these things… but here I am. These things no longer give me any reason to cry or have anxious thoughts, concerning them.

Today I just wanted to encourage anyone and everyone… including myself, who may be reading this. I wanted to remind you that irrespective of the current tribulation you may be experiencing, YOU WILL OVERCOME! Trust me, I know it’s a lot easier to say when you are not in the moment yourself – but those 4 words hold a lot more truth than you may realize. You will overcome this, no matter what the situation may be. There is hope for you. You are not a failure. You are loved. You will succeed.

Everyday Makeup Favourites!

Hi lovelies,

Today I’ve decided to dive into the world of beauty by sharing my go to everyday makeup favourites. I am definitely no makeup artist, but I like to believe that I have mastered the art of doing my own makeup over the years – and that would not have been possible without the following products I have grown to adore, that I am going to share with all of you, today.

Brows

Although I am very confident in my natural brow shape and shade, I can’t imagine doing my makeup without carving and filling them in to give that extra fleek. My go to products for my brows are the Essence Longlasting eye pencil in the shade ’01 Hot Chocolate” and the Clear Brow Mascara you get in the Collection Eye Brow Kit.

Foundation

As for my foundation, for daily use I tend to reach for the Maybeline Dream Satin Liquid in ‘Golden Caramel’. However, on the rare occasion that I am looking for a bit more coverage, I also top up my foundation by applying the Black Opal ‘True Color Foundation Stick’ in the shade ‘Nutmeg HT5’ , to the areas of my face that tend to suffer from discolouration.

Concealers

To conceal my under eyes and smile lines, I tend to interchange between the PS ‘My Perfect Colour’ liquid concealer from Penney’s and Maybeline’s ‘Fit Me’ concealer in the shade ’50’. I love the consistency of both products and how easy they are to apply and blend.

Powder

Applying powder to my face is definitely one of my favourite steps when doing my makeup. The Black Opal ‘Deluxe Finishing Powder’ is EVERYTHING. It locks in all the products I would have already applied, whilst also beautifully highlighting the areas of my face that naturally attract the sunlight.

Contour

After setting my face with powder, the next step is contour. I have been using this specific NYX palette for more than 4 years, and couldn’t imagine completing my makeup routine without it. The shade I use to contour my cheekbones, jaw and forehead is called ‘HCPS08 Hollow’.

Bronzer

The B by Superdrug, Radiance Powder, is the product I never thought I would need and love. I use this product to add a natural looking glow to my face after all the setting powder and contour. With a fluffy brush I apply my bronzer to my forehead, cheekbones and chin, to achieve a radiant glow.

The Essence ‘Lash Princess’ ‘False Lash Effect Mascara’, is definitely a current favourite of mine. It was recommended to me months ago, by a friend of mine, and since then I have ditched all my previous ones and find myself constantly reaching for this one.

Some of you might be questioning the fact that I have not included a setting spray within my product favourites for my everyday makeup routine – and that is because I still haven’t found one I truly love or one that actually makes a significant difference to the durability of my face. So if anyone has any suggestions of setting spray’s they swear by, I would really appreciate either a comment or dm on Instagram.

Once again, thank you so so much for reading today’s blogpost. If you have any questions or queries concerning prices, feel free to comment down below.
